Jesus Started Drinking

There’s a crazy woman I have known a while
and she thinks I’m lucky just to get her smile
Her address has given rise to dormant spirits
It’s a bit too close to home and now I fear it

And I can’t breathe there,
It makes me much too aware
of how much like an addict I’ve been thinking,
since Jesus started drinking

I was born the year that God began his habit
Since then love is binge & purge, we’re more like rabbits
and there’s a house that’s haunted down on 21st Ave.,
by the ghost of dishes thrown and wishes we had

CHORUS

It’s as though you follow me in other bodies,
but suffocating perfume is still rotting
Now I’m jonesing for a fix like that old lover
and with faith I do believe I’ll have another
