“The Thinking Man's Party Band...one of the best violinists I've ever seen."

Mercy in Munnsville

No one cared about the Wards
when they tractored into town,
simple men of whitened beards
till cancer came around

Williams bed was stained with pain,
for months he fought the pound
The frozen shack was an endless knife,
till Delbert put him down

And it doesn’t matter if Delbert did it
It doesn’t matter how Billy was killed
There’s still mercy in Munnsville

The state police could not release
the hands of such a deed
They pried and lied till Delbert signed
a sheet he couldn’t read

Who is this man the media crowned,
a monster on the loose?
Or was this act much kinder than
diseases’ choking noose?

CHORUS

And rallied round the brothers Ward,
the town folk of Munnsville
And in one day in a flood of faith
they raised four thousand bail

The party thrown in the circus tent,
the cameras in his face,
the people paid that lawyer’s rent
and Delbert won the race

CHORUS

Now everybody waves to the brothers
when they tractor into town,
simple men of whitened beards
till mercy came around
